Welcome to 365 opportunities!

The first virtual Play, Make, Create workshop is now open for bookings.

I'm looking forward to sharing new resources this year (which everyone attending a workshop gets access to, currently more than 300 Maker Cards and a wealth of support material which I add to regularly).

Here's a copy of a flyer to share and get your teachers on board...you can download your own copy below the image.

If you'd prefer a face to face session get in touch as I travel NZ wide

Wow what a crazy year.
We have all had to adapt, change, pause, reset and take charge of what we can control.

Play, Make, Create workshops have evolved and are now (in Level 2) both virtual and face to face. I have delivered workshops to thousands of teachers across the globe with educators Zooming in from Australia, Egypt, Singapore and beyond.

I am now also delivering Maker workshops and working with schools on the Investigate, Make, Concept which is curiosity and inquiry driven rather than Play (perfect for schools that wish to have Playbased learning in the junior school and then transition to be more student led and inquiry based in Middle/Senior).

The resource folders are open and active from June to June (so the 19/20 Dropbox folder has not had anything added since June and will be deleted in the next little while - please ensure you have downloaded all the contents or upgraded to the active Google Drive folder, which is added to everyday.) The yearly membership to access resources (for those that have attended a workshop) is only $20 per teacher (there is a site license available so you only pay for a maximum of 10 teachers).

I am also currently developing a simplified Make, Create resource for ECE and Early Years, this will be in the folder by Friday of this week.

I only have a few days available for Teacher Only Days to launch the 2021 year so get in touch if you are interested in inspiration and a springboard to support whole school sustainable change and implementation.

The Play, make, create journey

I have now connected with more than 95 schools and more than 500 educators across NZ. The resource folder that workshop attendees gain access to now has more than 250 Maker Cards and editable copies (for MAC and PC users to create their own). The closed facebook page for attendees has also grown and is becoming a valuable sharing space.

I update the playmakecreate instagram account and the NZ Educator facebook page everyday so connect to them for the up to date info and daily inspiration, invitations, provocations, books and reflections.

I am working in schools delivering both Play, Make, Create and digital technologies professional development in 2019 and beyond.

Get in touch if you are interested in hosting a workshop at your school (the host school gets 2 free of charges places and this style of after school (or TOD) pd is very cost effective. I also deliver teacher only days that launch with a workshop then explore either Maker or the tech in a much deeper way and often finish with an Inspire Innovation session for teachers of all levels to see what's possible.

You can email me at paula@switchonnz.com anytime to discuss your schools needs.

The "Play, Make, Create" workshops have taken off and I am now covering most of NZ in term four. Hamilton and the Far North dates are just being confirmed. you can book for any of the regions on the WORKSHOPS page. Make contact through the Facebook page if you would like to host a workshop in your region and I can see if we can make this happen, it would be mid to late November.

I also have an INSTAGRAM account set up for "Play, Make, Create" so follow this for daily updates.

Like my NZ Educator Facebook Page for daily "Play, Make, Create" updates

I will also have a closed FB page for all those that attend workshops or in school PD where we can share examples of our story baskets, lessons and celebrations of learning.

Today on facebook I shared the gorgeous book "I am an artist' by Nikki Slade Robinson and the invitation I created. We had such fun and had to do a quick trip to the beach to gather shells to add to it.

Maker Cards

Teachers and their students are absolutely loving the Play, Make, Create learning concept and I am really enjoying working in schools to set teachers on the journey. It's so rewarding seeing just how easy this style of invitational learning is to implement and how easy it is to embed within your daily programme.

I've just finished the first two sets of Maker Cards and added them to the Resource Kete. I've also just finished the first interactive Apple Book which is for Pack 1. I will continue to create Maker cards for all sorts of books and themes.

My term 3 calendar is getting full but still a few gaps if you are keen to book some professional development for your school. The BOP after school workshop on August 14th or the one in Dunedin August 9th is another option. Just get in touch if I can support you in anyway. Attending PD gives you exclusive access to the Resource Kete which will be added to regularly and this content will not be available online.

Pages templates

I have created a teacher scaffold to support the Play, Make, Create learning concept. I have also begun creating Pages templates that teachers can make accessible for their students. Students only need to tap on each box to choose their own photos or to add their own voice recording. These resources will be added to the kete and I will continue to create and add more.

Maker Cards

Teachers and students are loving the Maker Cards I have created to sit alongside the Story Baskets. Each card allows students to make a choice between a Design, Build, Create or Make task which is explicitly linked to the picture book. The tasks are open and allow learners to use their imaginations and to make decisions which getting hands on and dive deep into their projects. My aim is to create over 100 cards, available both as a PDF to print and laminate and also as an Apple Book that learners can tap a play button and have the options read to them, ensuring learners aren't disadvantaged by their reading ability. Teachers will have access to this growing Kete of resources when they attend a workshop or have me deliver PD at their school.

I am loving creating story baskets to share with teachers and learners and role modelling the 'Play, Make, Create' learning concept, it fits so seamlessly into the everyday learning programme and fosters such rich oral language while nurturing the skills and attitudes we all want to see in our tamariki, such as curiosity, problem solving, empathy, sharing and kindness.
