Teachers and students are loving the Maker Cards I have created to sit alongside the Story Baskets. Each card allows students to make a choice between a Design, Build, Create or Make task which is explicitly linked to the picture book. The tasks are open and allow learners to use their imaginations and to make decisions which getting hands on and dive deep into their projects. My aim is to create over 100 cards, available both as a PDF to print and laminate and also as an Apple Book that learners can tap a play button and have the options read to them, ensuring learners aren't disadvantaged by their reading ability. Teachers will have access to this growing Kete of resources when they attend a workshop or have me deliver PD at their school.
I am loving creating story baskets to share with teachers and learners and role modelling the 'Play, Make, Create' learning concept, it fits so seamlessly into the everyday learning programme and fosters such rich oral language while nurturing the skills and attitudes we all want to see in our tamariki, such as curiosity, problem solving, empathy, sharing and kindness.
